How about some "girl time" while learning pastimes of the past? In our modern society we are losing touch with traditional handcrafts. Women and girls throughout history have used handcrafts to beautify their clothing and their homes. Students will explore history through the arts and crafts of the times. Students will learn about the time periods of various characters from the 'American Girls' doll series. Our projects during the week will focus on handcrafts depicted in American Girls books as well as traditional handcrafts of the periods in which they lived. We will be creating projects for our Tea Party on Friday as well as clothing and accessories for American Girl dolls. Participants will learn about embroidery, piecework and quilting and many other interesting historical handcrafts. Girls are invited and encouraged to bring their dolls to class!
