Fun Fact(s)

As a young girl, my parents gave me a large chalkboard for Christmas one year. I began teaching my dolls at age 7 and then the neighborhood children at age 9. I guess you could say that I knew from an early age that I wanted to teach. I come from a family of educators. My mother and both sisters are in education. We have a combined 100 years of teaching experience. That is a lot of graded papers!

Background

I teach because it is my passion and I believe that God has given me certain talents for this purpose. Even after years in the classroom, I am still excited to show students new horizons. I am a high-energy teacher who loves to develop an excitement for learning among my students. I present lessons to reach all learning styles and I utilize technology to aid in this process. I believe in using movement, hands-on activities and kinesthetic manipulatives to create a desire to succeed within each student. I develop my lessons based on the average attention span of the student's age group I'm teaching. Students do not do well if they must sit and listen to someone speak for an hour. I believe in presenting my lessons in chunks with hands-on activities woven through the lesson to capture and keep my student's attention. In fact, I love spending my downtime in coming up with fun activities to augment my instruction. It is my hope that my students take what they have learned from me and pass it on to others.
